How Mercari's Refund Process Works.

Mercari operates as a marketplace between buyers and sellers. Mercari processes the buyer's payment and generally holds the payment while the transaction is being completed. The seller receives the funds after the transaction is completed.

• 1. Buyer makes a purchaseThe buyer pays for the item through Mercari. The payment can include the item price, shipping, and applicable fees. Mercari's current U.S. Buyer Protection fee is 3.6% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping.
• 2. Seller ships the itemThe seller normally ships the order and confirms shipment through Mercari. The transaction remains in progress while the item is being delivered.
• 3. Buyer receives and checks the itemAfter confirmed delivery, the buyer has 72 hours to report that the item is significantly different from the listing, damaged during shipping, or inauthentic. The buyer should request the return through Mercari's Order Status or Rating page.
• 4. Mercari reviews the refund/return requestMercari reviews the claim rather than simply giving the seller or buyer control of the refund. The buyer may have to provide photographs of the item, packaging, shipping label, and other evidence. Mercari can deny a claim if there is insufficient information, fraud, or other circumstances covered by its policies.

Cancellation is different from a normal return.

A buyer can request cancellation before the seller confirms shipment. The seller has 24 hours to respond. If the seller accepts the cancellation, or does not respond within that period, Mercari cancels the transaction and refunds the buyer to the original payment method, less any applicable non-refundable fees.

Marketplace Deals.

Purchase → Payment held by Mercari → Seller ships → Buyer receives → Buyer reports eligible problem → Mercari reviews → Return approved → Item returned → Mercari processes refund → Refund goes back to original payment method.
